The award was received by Chadwick’s brother Derrick Boseman at the Disney Legends Award Ceremony.
“When I found out that Disney wanted to honor Chad, the first thing that came to my mind was honor. When I think of my brother and the honor he received, I wish he was here to receive it. Not being here is a great pain for my family. But when I think of him, I think of what honor he gave to his family and relatives, and even to his friends, he made sure everyone had a good career. How he honored all the contracts he signed. He honors them with his blood, his sweat, his tears, while playing those roles he also undergoes chemo.”
The Disney Legends Award is a tradition that has been going on for 35 years, and is given to extraordinary individuals who have contributed to the legacy of Disney. Boseman died in 2020 after a long battle with cancer, and was recognized posthumously for his role as T’Challa in the MCU and Black Panther (2018).
“Chad is a great man. Plato said, art imitates life. But Oscar Wilde corrected that life imitates art and this is the case of Chad. If I pay attention to this storytelling, a story is told in our everyone, thank you all for the tributes to my brother. I want to tell Chad, we have always loved you. Mom and Dad you will always be loved. Also, for me, mom and dad are two legends too, because you need of a king and a queen to create a king.
Derrick concluded.
