Usual makes his Broadway debut in the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Between Riverside and Madness.

Common will make its Broadway debut this winter at the Second Stage Theater Between Riverside and Crazy.

The rapper and actor, who is one Tony Award away from winning the EGOT, was announced Friday as part of the cast of the upcoming Broadway production from writer Steven Adley Girgis and director Austin Pendleton. The show will begin November 30th before opening December 19th at Stage Two’s Hayes Theater.

Common will star in the dark comedy as Jr., the recently released ex-cop and recently widowed son of Walter “Pops” Washington (played by Stephen McKinley Henderson). The play follows the duo as they struggle to keep one of the last rent-stabilized apartments on Riverside Drive, reopening old wounds and amidst new guests and a final ultimatum.

Common will join several previously announced Off-Broadway cast members returning to their roles, including Henderson, Victor Almanzari, Elizabeth Canavan, Rosal Colon, Lisa Colon-Zayas and Michael Rispoli.

The Broadway production’s creative team includes Walt Spangler directing the scenic design and Alexis Forte directing the costumes, with lighting design by Keith Parham and original music and sound design by Ryan Rumer. The cast is from Telsey + Company.

After opening a limited run at The Atlantic Theater Company’s Linda Gross Theater in July 2014, Second Stage had a limited run on Broadway. Between Riverside and Crazy From February to March 2015 at the Tony Keyser Theater.

Between Riverside and Crazy It won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the 2015 New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play, and the 2015 Lucille Lortel Award for Best Play, among many other awards.
