Dolly Parton graciously declined her nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March, but the Rock Hall decided to keep her at the polls. So what happens if you log in? The 10-time Grammy winner asked exactly that question in an interview with NPR on Friday.
“Okay, I’ll take it easy. “I’ll just say thank you and accept because the fans are voting,” Parton said. “But when I said that, I always believed that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was for rock people, and recently I realized that this is not true. But if you can’t go there and do reconnaissance, where do you go? So I felt like I was going to take someone who deserved it, certainly more than me, because I never considered myself a rock artist. But obviously there’s more to it than that. this.”
Parton’s induction is his first in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where the singer-songwriter has been inducted alongside the likes of Beck, Devot, Kate Bush, Eminem, Rage Against the Machine, Carly Simon and others.
The famous country star released a statement on March 10, saying that while he is “extremely flattering and grateful” for the nomination, he doesn’t feel he deserves it. “I don’t really want to split votes because of me, so I have to respect myself,” he said at the time.
A few days later, Rock Hall released a statement saying it would elect Parton to the Class of 2022. “In addition to her incredible talent as an artist, her humility is another reason Dolly is the favorite icon of millions of fans. “All over the world,” he said, explaining the decision. “From its inception, rock ‘n’ roll has had deep roots in rhythm and blues and country music.
