According to Craig Mazin, ‘Joel’s (Pedro Pascal) past is what informs his future’
In addition to thrilling a large part of the audience with the acclaimed episode “For a Long, Long Time,” the series of The Last of Usproduced by HBOpromises to make viewers cry even more in the coming episodes, with flashbacks of Joelplayed by Pedro Pascalaccording to the producer Craig Mazin.
During an interview with TVLine, mazinone of the creators of the adaptation and also responsible for the acclaimed miniseries Chernobylhinted at how there will be some particularly emotional scenes in The Last of Us – and indicated that one of those moments would be very difficult flashbacks about the protagonist.
“I don’t think we’re going to go back that far, but the past of Joel it’s what informs his future. There’s a particular moment where I’m thinking that too [me atinge] with so much force,” said the executive in the conversation.
“The representation of Joel per Pedro Pascal has a lot of soul and humanity and vulnerability, especially when Joel is alone,” continued Craig Mazin. “You know? He needs to be a tough guy around everyone, but when he’s alone, that’s when you see all that soul.”
