A woman in India's Uttar Pradesh state has confessed to killing her husband using a dress, The Times of India reported.
Umashankar, 42, and Mamta, 37, had been married for 20 years and had an 18-year-old son and a 12-year-old daughter. In 2024, Umashankar got a job at a company in Gujarat and moved there with his family. There, Mamta began an affair with a neighbor, a relationship serious enough that she openly said she wanted to marry him. The couple argued constantly, and in early 2026 Umashankar decided to move the family back to Uttar Pradesh.
Attack on the roof
Mamta kept up the affair and eventually decided to get rid of her husband. On the night of Friday, July 31, the couple's daughter woke to noise coming from the roof of the house where the family slept. She and her brother went up and found their father unresponsive, with a dress wrapped around his head. Umashankar was taken to the hospital but could not be saved.
Confession after search
Mamta was nowhere to be found until she was later discovered hiding near the house. She admitted she had killed her husband so she could run off to her lover in Gujarat.
The report noted that another woman in Uttar Pradesh had earlier killed her lover after he refused to marry her, attacking him with a knife while he slept.
