Greek shooting champion Anna Korakaki and her husband, Giannis Chalkiadakis, have baptised their seven-month-old daughter, giving the infant the name Athina.
The Greek athlete shared photographs from the religious ceremony with her followers on Instagram, capturing family members who attended the sacrament.
Reflecting on the milestone in a message accompanying the photos, Korakaki wrote that it was the day her daughter's name took its place among countless wishes, smiles, and loved ones. She described the occasion as one of those special days that people wish to hold on to a little longer, noting the hugs, the light, family presence, and every small detail that made the day unique to her daughter.
Wishes for baby Athina
Continuing her online post, the athlete shared her hopes and prayers for seven-month-old Athina as she grows up. Korakaki stated that if she and her husband pray for anything in their daughter's life, it is for her to enjoy robust health, to carry light and joy in her soul, to share love and solidarity, to always do good, and to meet people along her path who will love her genuinely.
Korakaki added that she and Chalkiadakis look forward to watching their daughter take all her beautiful steps one by one, referring to the child as their adoration. She noted that the baptism marked only the beginning of a life filled with Athina's own stories, promising that both parents will be there to watch those chapters unfold.
Olympic shooting career
Korakaki is one of Greece's most prominent athletes, having achieved international acclaim in sport shooting. She won a gold medal in the 25-metre pistol event and a bronze medal in the 10-metre air pistol at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, becoming the first Greek woman to win two Olympic medals at the same Games.
