The massager is not for the face: how Chinese women actually do gua sha massage

Gouache massage is one of the most popular and affordable methods for getting rid of wrinkles and puffiness. However, in its historical homeland, gouache is used for other purposes – for which it was originally created.

Guasha is the oldest massage technique that, thanks to beautyholics, has been given new life. Today, a rose quartz stone is in the arsenal of millions of women. It is believed that they should be used every day – to eliminate puffiness, improve blood circulation and skin nutrition, and also make facial features more expressive.

Asia is considered the cradle of gouache. According to Tina Chen Craig, beauty expert and specialist in the field of natural youth, in her native China, it is customary to use quartz stone from a young age until old age. Gouache massage is practiced by both women and men – this is where it is most often used, not in the face area.

“Gua sha is considered an important part of Chinese culture. But we mainly use it on the body to eliminate toxins. If I didn’t feel well as a child, my grandmother used to massage my back, along each side of my spine, and the sides of my neck and shoulders to improve my lymphatic system. I always have gouache in my bag – in tense moments for me, I massage my neck with it to relieve tension and eliminate stress”, – share Chinese.

Do you have gouache stone?

Yes

No

Tina also does a decongestant facial massage with gua sha – but less often, more carefully and following strict rules so as not to stretch the delicate skin.

“I only use gouache on wet skin or when I put a lot of oil on it. Before that, I warm the stone in my hands – in our culture, anything cold is thought to be detrimental to beauty of a woman, affecting the hormonal system,” says Tina.
