Nail taboo: what nail shapes do manicurists hate?

New trends in nail art are constantly appearing, but not all manicurist masters are thrilled.

Salon specialists explained which nail shapes they don’t like and why – here are six that were included in their list of taboos.

long almond

Canadian nail artist @nailsbysariya revealed on her TikTok page that she and many of her peers hate the almond shape when it comes to long nails. “I pity the customers who choose it. This design looks cute in the first days, but when the nails grow, they turn into bananas, ”says the girl. A resident of Canada is supported by the high-end manicure master Lauren Brough: “Long almond-shaped nails are beautiful, until they grow back. You better avoid them if you don’t want to go to the salon often.”

Their nail designers simply consider them dangerous. “The sharp point can easily pierce the skin and cause serious injury. Therefore, I think it is very important to round the edge of the nail,” says beauty blogger Akirashanti Bird.

Nails of different shapes

Girls who like experiments sometimes do not limit themselves to coating and ask to give their nails a different shape: for example, make a square part of it, the rest – almond-shaped. Lauren thinks this solution seems unsuccessful: “Different shapes on the one hand look messy – it’s not for nothing that we try to make the nails look as similar to each other as possible.” For those who want something new, she advises choosing several different colors for the manicure, not shapes.

Nails “too oval”

Rounded nails never go out of style, but many nail technicians don’t like the plate becoming a perfect oval, turning into an egg. According to TikTok nail designers, this shape is “loved by old ladies.” Lauren considers the egg-shaped nails too artificial: “They don’t look natural. It immediately becomes clear that the nails have been shaped – this makes them fake.

Ultra short nails

With this form, everything is simple: usually it is preferred by those who have to work a lot with their hands, and master manicurists do not like it, because there is a high risk of injuring the client. “We need at least one free perk to do our job well. If you like very short nails, take care of them and never bite or peel – it’s very difficult to do anything with already injured skin, plate and cuticle,” says Lauren.

Lipstick

These asymmetrical nails, one end of which is longer than the other, have two drawbacks at the same time. First, they have a pointed end that can scratch skin or catch on something. Second, according to Bro, they look weird – as if the plates were just broken at the end.
