2 perfumes that will make you more attractive: expert advice

We’ve heard of love at first sight, but what about the first breath?

The ubiquitous smell of Cyprus, the light, barely perceptible lavender scent of a freshly ironed blouse, the scent that makes you want to sneeze… Scents can play a big role in how we are perceived by others.

“Smells often evoke memories and evoke strong feelings that can affect how attractive we are to a person,” says relationship coach Laura Wasser. What perfumes to use if you need such an effect? Experts identify two of them, the effectiveness of which has been proven by science.

Vanilla

A 1994 study found that the scent of vanilla reduced anxiety and helped people relax. As Lisa Lawless, Ph.D. and creator of the Sex Toys Portal explains, this scent is often associated with happy memories like baking cookies and other sweets and can therefore create feelings of comfort and warmth that are very important for relationships.

Floral perfumes

Lawless notes that floral scents have always been considered the most “romantic and feminine” and have been used as aphrodisiacs for centuries. Unsurprisingly, during a 2020 survey, 85% of men (a total of 3,978 representatives of the “stronger sex” were interviewed) admitted that they are more attracted to women who smell of flowers.

Lavender

Lavender is associated with relaxation, which is why it’s so common to find it in spas or in scented candles to help you fall asleep. “When we inhale the scent of lavender, the brain releases serotonin and dopamine, which regulate mood and help us relax,” says aromatherapy expert Caleb Buck. So if you want a man to feel calm and comfortable around him, use lavender.

citrus flavors

Do you want to look energetic and happy? Then you need an eau de toilette with invigorating citrus notes. “Aromatherapists believe that the smell of citrus fruits, especially orange, brings joy. They give a feeling of freshness and vitality, which makes a woman very attractive,” explains Lawless.

Musk

Warm musky notes, according to Lawless, are perceived by people as “earthly”, comfortable and at the same time sophisticated. Such scents, according to Vasser, can be extremely appealing and create a sense of intrigue.

But whatever perfume you choose, always remember the main rule: a person who is sensitive to smells will be repelled even by his beloved if it is too intense. “Therefore, don’t cover yourself in perfume or cologne – others are unlikely to like it,” Lawless warns.
