French chic is the ability to be beautiful, sexy and stylish, as if without putting the slightest effort into it. We caught up with makeup educator Lauren Marten to find out what the secret is.
Use serum and moisturizer before makeup
The powder is one of my favorite products. For everyday makeup, you can not even use tone, but just lightly powder your face. But the most important thing about using powder is not to overdo it! I have a little secret to using powder: take a fluffy brush, scoop a generous amount of powder, then “dab” the brush with a tissue! Any excess funds will stay on, and you won’t risk applying too much to the skin: the coating is perfectly thin, almost transparent.
I recommend 2 ways to use concealer: you can apply it before you do your eye makeup, or after. The first option is ideal if you do not plan to use dark shadows and apply them intensively. For example, you only have a pencil and mascara – nothing will crumble under your eyes and spoil the concealer coating.
I advise you to apply it all the same with a brush, and not with your fingers – do it with pulsating and non-smudging movements. After evenly distributing concealer under your eyes, lightly powder the area for durability and shine control.
If you are going to do, for example, thick smokes using dark shadows, there is a risk that they will crumble – it is much easier to remove excess from clean skin. In this case, apply concealer after completing your eye makeup.
French girls do not like bright makeup. My clients in Paris always say, “Not brilliant!” But in Russia, on the contrary, almost all customers asked to make a smoky eye and not to give up bright colors. That’s an interesting difference between us!
I myself am a fan of calm, natural and nude shades for French makeup and not only. When it comes to shadows, careful shading is particularly important: this makes the makeup look as natural as possible. For shading, I strongly advise you to buy a “Chinese brush” – it’s such a fluffy brush with a pointed end. I can’t imagine how I would have worked without her!
Sometimes I really like to make up my eyes with kayal and tint my eyelashes with mascara – it’s the ideal minimum! To beautifully paint the lining of the eyes, remember a simple trick for French makeup: hold a soft black pencil for a few seconds under the flame of a lighter. Then the pen will become even softer and more flexible, it is very convenient. Therefore, the lighter is always in my make-up bag!
Eyebrows are the basis of makeup, they make it whole and complete. Personally, I prefer to tint my eyebrows with dark shadows, but you can also use a pencil.
My secret to creating perfect brows is to brush out all the hairs first so you can perfectly see their growth line. This line should be carefully painted with shadows. Use a fine angled brush. Then just put the hair back “in place”, lifting it up. Fix the result with a transparent gel. Ready!
A light blush is the finishing touch to any makeup look. The key word here is ‘light’, it shouldn’t be too noticeable, just discreetly adjust the skin tone. I prefer to use dry blush and apply it in layers to control the intensity.
Take a blush brush and pick up the product. Wipe off the excess with a tissue, like I taught you to do when using powder. There will be very little crumbly blush on the brush, apply the first layer to the apples of your cheeks. If this does not seem sufficient, repeat the procedure 2 to 3 times.
The secret is that when you apply blush this way, it’s very hard to overdo it by making the color too intense. But if there is a lot of product on the brush, then it will be quite difficult to remove the excess from the face.
