You must have heard that losing 50 to 150 hairs a day is normal. However, the main question remains open: how do we know how many of them have fallen? Collect those who have not had time to “escape” into the sewer, then add those who have remained on the comb, and count? The figure will certainly be quite accurate, but such a “research” looks very strange, and it will be unpleasant to conduct it.
However, according to dermatologists, this is not necessary – there is another way to find out if everything is in order with your curls.
Let’s start with the basics: the fallout is different. As dermatologist Stephanie Saxton-Daniels, MD explains, there is a natural cycle of hair growth – each one goes through several stages.
During the active phase of growth – anagen – the hair follicle matrix cells divide and the hair itself grows longer. Anagen lasts two to five years, followed by a three-week catagen, during which cell renewal stops. It is followed by the telogen or resting phase – the complete cessation of hair growth, which ends with hair loss. Then it all starts again: a new hair forms in the follicle.
