Artwork: amazing 3D manicures by artist Sophie Parkinson

“Everyday life is my inspiration, whether it’s the streetscape, the bathroom or the fixtures we don’t usually notice. The mundane things we do every day, the familiar textures – I like to use it all in my art,” says Sophie.

Sophie has always loved manicures – she first got one when she was 12. Then, when Sophie found photos of her first experiences, she saw how terrible the coating was – but then it looked incredibly beautiful to the girl.

At 18, Sophie decided to become a sculptor and entered Central Saint Martins, one of the six universities of the University of the Arts in London. According to the girl, everyone dresses in clothes sewn according to their own sketches, and Sophie was amazed at the spectacular manicure that many of her friends do. Then the student for the first time ordered a set with polygel and made herself long nails.

There was nothing to do at home during the pandemic, and Sophie was mastering cartoonish nail designs. At the end of 2020, she started thinking about “taking it to the next level”, but she just didn’t understand where to go. And then she caught the eye of a manicure in the shape of a sauce bottle: “A light bulb went on in my head!” Sophie describes her feelings when she sees him.

The sculptor went further – his first nail design in the form of a Fairy bottle was functional: real washing up liquid was poured into a container that repeated the well-known design. Then follow the following nail sculptures: a crane, which the young girl constantly sees at her window, a man standing at a bus stop, a service…
