5 skincare myths: See if you believe any of them!

“You have to drink two liters of water every day”, “the moisturizer is not suitable for oily skin”, “double cleansing is essential”…

Experts have indicated which of these rules are true and which can be safely ignored – following them will not improve the condition of your skin in any way.

The more you drink, the better your skin is

“It’s one of the biggest myths: increasing water intake has no effect on wrinkles or smooth skin. There is simply no scientific evidence to support the link,” says dermatologist Anjali Mahto.

You need to change makeup, otherwise the skin will get used to it.

“People often think that products stop working over time because the skin gets used to them. That’s not true. Chances are your skin is just trying to tell you it needs something different. I always remind clients that skincare should be changed according to the season: leave the main products unchanged, but add, for example, a new serum or active ingredients to solve certain problems”, explains cosmetologist Mikaella Bolder.

When taking care of your skin, you should base it on age.

“The skin care regimen should always be based on your specific problems, not on the number of years you have lived. There are no two “same ages” – for example, representatives of different nationalities age differently and lifestyle characteristics must also be taken into account. Selecting funds solely on the basis of age is a bad idea. Start by identifying the challenges, then find the right ingredients to solve them,” advises Makhto.

Double cleansing should be done daily

“Many women think that skin should always be cleansed twice – first with an oil-based product and then with a water-based gel or mousse, but it’s more of a safe way to Double cleansing is sometimes useful in the evening to remove makeup and impurities, but it shouldn’t become a habit – only use it once in a while,” recommends cosmetologist and wellness expert Abigail James.

Moisturizer is bad for oily skin

If you don’t moisturize it will start to compensate for the lack of moisture by producing more sebum, and you’ll get caught up in this cycle. If you want to minimize shine, just find a lighter cream – preferably with hyaluronic acid,” says Michaela.
