Camilo Drops Christmas Single 'El Árbol' Before New Album

Colombian singer Camilo has released "El árbol," a new single that previews his upcoming fifth studio album, "Para cuando sean mayores," which is set to arrive on September 9.

Throughout August, Camilo had been dropping hints about the record on social media, sharing teasers to build anticipation for the release. He had already said that before the album's launch he would give fans a gift in the form of a song, and "El árbol" is that preview.

A Christmas-themed video

The track is a soft, melodic pop rock song accompanied by a carefully produced music video. In it, Camilo is shown preparing a Christmas tree, the kind families put up as the holidays approach, even though Christmas may still feel a long way off. The song's message urges listeners to stay present and enjoy the moment, rather than looking back later with regret at not having made the most of it.

The roughly three-and-a-half-minute video, posted on Camilo's YouTube channel, follows him decorating the tree in detail, including sprinkling what is shown as magic dust onto the hands of his eldest daughter, Indigo. Indigo also featured prominently in the social media teaser Camilo used to announce the song.

Camilo rose to prominence in 2020, during the pandemic, when his song "Vida de rico" became a breakthrough hit that helped push his career to a new level. His music is known for blending intimate, carefully chosen lyrics with a distinctive sound within the Latin pop scene.

Fifth album dedicated to his daughters

"Para cuando sean mayores" will be Camilo's fifth studio album, arriving September 9 with 13 songs. The record is a tribute to his two daughters, Indigo and Amaranto, whom he shares with his wife, singer Evaluna Montaner.

In an Instagram post, Camilo wrote that he had set out to write an album for his daughters and ended up finding himself in the process. He said he wanted to leave them a toolbox for when they are older, describing it as seeds that could one day grow into giant trees and give them shade.

He added that while writing the songs, he realized many of the things he wanted to teach his daughters were things they already carried within themselves, and that he had once known them too, only he had forgotten.

Camilo also wrote that entering the world of his daughters Indigo and Amaranto required him to become small again, and that playing with them helped him rediscover the child he once was, recalling things he had known and forgotten. He said he now understood that when people used to tell him he would understand certain things once he became a father, what they really meant was that becoming a father would help him understand himself.

Release date

Camilo closed his message by reminding fans that "Para cuando sean mayores" comes out on September 9 and that it is already available to pre-save.
