Love Island star Casey O'Gorman has revealed he nearly missed his flight to best friend Tom Clare's second wedding to Molly Smith in Mallorca after airline EasyJet overbooked the flight.
The 29-year-old reality television personality is scheduled to act as best man on Saturday as groom Tom, 26, and bride Molly tie the knot in a lavish ceremony abroad. The destination event comes one month after the couple held their official legal ceremony at Stockport Town Hall in Greater Manchester.
Tom almost faced standing at the altar without his best man after Casey was initially denied entry to his flight because EasyJet had sold too many tickets. Taking to his Instagram stories on Friday, Casey explained that he checked in at the airport only to be informed that the flight was fully booked, forcing him to wait at the departure gate in hopes that a passenger would fail to show up.
Airlines frequently sell more tickets than there are physical seats on an aircraft as a commercial strategy to maximize revenue. Carriers rely on statistical patterns of passengers who miss flights or cancel at the last minute to ensure planes depart full. Slamming the low-cost carrier, Casey shared his frustration with his social media followers. "How can I buy a flight that's sold out? I'm trying to keep calm but it's proving very difficult," he said.
In a subsequent post on his Instagram story, Casey shared a photo showing his unimpressed expression while continuing to question the airline's ticketing policies. "How can you oversell a flight it baffles me," he wrote.
Resolution at the Departure Gate
Providing a quick update to fans shortly afterwards, Casey revealed that EasyJet staff had issued an announcement asking passengers to vacate the flight voluntarily. The airline offered £300 in cash compensation to anyone willing to give up their seat and take a later flight. Casey noted to his followers that he could spot someone in the gate area who looked like a potential candidate to take up the offer.
In his next slide, an ecstatic Casey celebrated after a passenger agreed to step off the plane. Yelling "he's on! He's on!" to his followers, Casey revealed that a teacher named Harri had accepted the compensation offer and surrendered her seat for him.
Following the gate resolution, Casey shared a photograph of himself FaceTiming groom Tom while finally boarding the aircraft. Taking another swipe at the airline, Casey captioned the moment by writing: "EasyJet nearly f***ed his flight up but the best man's en route."
Casey concluded his travel updates by confirming that he had safely arrived at the wedding destination in the Balearic Islands. He shared a video showing himself sitting inside Tom's hotel room in Mallorca while wearing soothing eye patches to recover from the stressful journey.
Pre-Wedding Stress and Wedding Planning
The travel drama comes just weeks after Casey was left worse for wear following Tom and Molly's first wedding event in the UK. That earlier celebration took a raucous turn, leaving the couple feeling stressed during their final wedding preparations.
Speaking to the Daily Mail ahead of their Spanish ceremony, Molly and Tom admitted they had experienced a few pre-wedding wobbles while navigating last-minute arrangements for their big day. The couple explained that dealing with administrative details and vendor invoices had created unexpected pressure during the final weeks.
Molly explained the pressure of organizing the destination wedding: "It's got to the stressful part, just because we're weeks out and only because it's invoices being sent and all the last bits that you start to panic about and then you start getting people asking you questions, like texting you. So then it starts to get a little bit stressful in that sense. So I have had a little wobble."
Tom agreed that managing expectations had caused brief moments of anxiety before departing for Mallorca. "We just want it all to be perfect, but like you said, there's just like little bits, people asking silly questions. It's not too bad, but just because we want it to go so well and we've put time and effort into it. I think we're just about there. You've had a few little meltdowns," Tom said.
Raucous Celebrations at The Ivy
Molly concurred with her partner's assessment while revealing how Tom copes with pre-wedding anxiety. "Tom's so chilled. Normally you're super, super chilled, but Tom stress cleans, so I know when you're stressed because you'll go upstairs and start hoovering or something like that!" she said.
Despite the pre-wedding nerves, the couple emphasized that they are in good stead for the main event in Mallorca because their legal ceremony in Stockport was a really special and intimate occasion. While Tom and Molly have spoken openly about their overall wedding planning process with fans on social media, they intentionally kept specific details about their UK civil ceremony private prior to the event.
After officially tying the knot at Stockport Town Hall, Molly and Tom hosted an intimate celebratory dinner for close friends and family in a private room at The Ivy restaurant. However, what was intended to be a quiet post-ceremony meal quickly escalated into a lively party.
Molly recalled how the evening unfolded: "It started like so calm and classic. And then by the end of it, Casey was in a heap on the floor. We were on the tables dancing. Everyone just went to the Ivy and we just had a private room."
Tom added that the mood shifted as soon as the wedding party had private space to celebrate: "As soon as the door shut, everyone just seemed to go mental!" With Casey now safely landed in Mallorca, the best man has rejoined the couple ahead of their Saturday ceremony.
