“Russian Peppers”: “We speak the same language with the public, we are concerned about the same problems, we are their friends”

Every morning they wake up the country with their jokes, their fun games and their favorite songs on Russian radio, they are listened to and known by millions, they are the hosts of the show Russian Peppers! In a special interview, Anton Yuryev, Polina Zhukova and Dmitry Morozov spoke to VOICE about building working relationships, pre-show traditions and who they are.

Tell us how your trio was formed? How long did it take you to get used to each other?

Paulina: Our wonderful trio was initially formed at the head of our program director – Vladimir Borisov. He knew each of us individually and felt intuitively that we could put on a great show! The break-in, to be honest, was not. We immediately felt in the work, and it’s cool, we really worked together very quickly.

Sun : Our great luck is that we didn’t have to get used to each other. I worked on Russian radio as a live DJ, and Anton and I saw each other quite often during shift changes. I immediately appreciated his sparkling humor, his virtuoso improvisation and his ability to always turn his back.

We know Polina even better, before that we worked on various projects, we took our first steps on the legendary Radio Yunost, like many well-known TV and radio hosts now.

Did you immediately agree to become the new host of the show?

Sun : When Vladimir Borisov called me and offered me to become a “Russian pepper”, it took me about five seconds to think. Of course I agreed!

Paulina: I remember that fateful call. It happened one winter morning when I was driving my daughter to school. I’m in the street, there are people around… But that didn’t stop me from shouting to the whole street: “Yes! I agree!”. I don’t know what passers-by thought at that moment… (Smiles.)

How long did it take you to get used to each other?

Anthony: To be honest, we didn’t have time to get used to and consider ourselves, because we immediately plunged headlong into the work process: preparing the show during the show, rehearsing the stage events during the events themselves, running briskly along the red carpet of various awards, receiving them along the way or handing them over to someone else, they toured the cities, gave interviews, held big parties, met fans… When to get used to each other? Find time for healthy, well-done sleep! (Smiling.)

Does the quality of the broadcast depend on establishing good working relationships within the team?

Sun : Of course, the climate within the team greatly affects ether magic. In taped shows, the director can always edit in such a way that the listener never guesses that the presenters, who are smiling sweetly at each other, are in fact sworn enemies. Live, all emotions and moods are instantly read by the listener. And if there is some tension in the air in the studio, they will quickly sense it and move on to another wave, where there is mutual understanding between colleagues and a healthy atmosphere. In terms of personal communication, we support each other 100% and try to be not only colleagues, but also friends.

Anthony: We don’t follow the rules! That’s probably why it works so well. Work relations are above all mutual respect and complete mutual assistance. And the most important factor is getting high from the time spent together! If it’s not fun together, then you can spend many years building relationships, but it’s all “injection into a prosthesis”, meaning in vain!

Every morning you will be the whole country with your positive and your humor. How do you get on air?

Paulina: Taking begins from the first second of waking up. I have an alarm clock with the name: “Polina, it’s time to get up and wake up the whole country!”. After that, the mood is automatically already at its peak, you understand how important it is to be in shape, to recharge your batteries and to work on the live broadcast, giving yourself one hundred percent. On the way to work, while driving, I do speech exercises: tongue twisters, breathing – all this helps me to wake up completely.

Sun : Russian peppers are a way of thinking. We try to see only the good and the positive in everything. Of course, there are times when our battery runs out for a while, but luckily that doesn’t happen at the same time for everyone. And in this case, when the microphone turns on and Anton says “Hello, delicious” to the whole country, I personally forget that today I did not get enough sleep or someone told me locked in the parking lot near the house, etc. The air charges all day long not only you, dear listeners, but also us!

Do you have a tradition before you start working?

Paulina: Necessarily! It’s cuddling with each other and joking around that gives us the right attitude and the right attitude to work with throughout the live stream.

Anthony: Morning coffee together on arrival at work. Someone always brings something tasty… Of course, it may seem innocuous, and I can say exactly what fans want to hear… So every morning, 666 seconds before the broadcast, we sit on the floor in the darkest room, in a circle drawn in chalk, join your hands and begin to sing our anthem so loud that the candles we have placed around the room go out! (Laughs.)

Sun : I don’t, I don’t have time to do anything in the morning. My tradition is to arrive at the studio on time and “stick” the whole show together so that everything sounds good and there are no breaks.

Can the quality of the team suffer if one of you is not on the air?

Sun : As you know, we have no irreplaceable. Of course, the show must go on, even if someone is absent, and we will do everything to make up for the lack of studio personnel. But, of course, our show is three people. It is a formula for success, a harmonious combination of beauty, erudition and humor. But of course I wish it was the Zhukov-Morozov-Yuriev line-up that listeners later called “golden” over the years.

Paulina: Request for interest. I think the quality of the show itself can’t suffer, but our inner feeling – yes. After all, we are a team and, of course, each of us has our own task. And in general, we miss each other.

What is more important for a radio host – the good voice or the sense of humor?

Anthony: And this is where opinions differ! It seems to me that the cooler and more numerous the talents, the brighter the show becomes with their daily use… Choosing among them, which is more important, is just a waste of time!

Sun : As a speech teacher and lecturer with extensive experience, I believe the voice is very important. Humor, of course, is also important, but again, on the radio, the voice is more important, and sometimes it doesn’t matter what you say, all you have to do is speak, and listeners will already be delighted with the vibe of it. radio host stamp.

In your opinion, what is the originality of this show? Why do listeners love the radio show so much?

Anthony: We speak the same language and breathe the same air! We are concerned about the same daily problems, we can complain, you can have a good time with us and laugh and cry with joy… We are their friends, and we really appreciate it!

Paulina: We are sincere and real, during the show we play no role, we are living people, just like our listeners. I think that’s exactly how they feel, because sincerity always attracts. In addition, we have an interesting show, fun news, cool topics, cool interactives, contests and star guests who come to us, the show with which is not just a trivial question and answer, but a real show.

Sun : The host of the show “Russian Peppers” is not a position, it’s a title. You have to deserve it. A person must be a super professional both in broadcasting, in technical terms and in human terms: to be a good psychologist, interviewer, to have acting skills and, above all, not to be boring and the like.

What do you think of hate? Have you encountered any negative comments?

Paulina: To be honest, it’s almost gone now. At the very beginning, I was even offended to read different comments, but I just understood their nature. One can only pity and sympathize with the person who writes the hate. It always amazes me how people have time for such nonsense?! Therefore, now I no longer pay attention to such comments, I bring positive things to people, it is my choice, good attracts good!

Sun : Of course, there was hatred, and for the first few weeks after the show changed line-ups, listeners were distraught, they refused to accept our trio. And it is understandable, it is very difficult to change and get used to something unfamiliar. But after a while we received a huge amount of text messages with the words “Forgive me for the hate, I was angry at first, but now I can’t meet my morning without you!” You are better!”. I’m not lying now, I have screenshots.
