Sergey Zhukov: “In the” battle of covers “we look at the idea, creativity, presentation”

On March 24, at STS, the premiere of the vocal television project “Battle of Covers”, where the leader of the group “Hands Up!”, accompanied by singer Klava Koka and a guest star guest, will evaluate the performances of the best covers groups from all over the country and neighboring countries.

Sergei, you are not often seen in the jury of television projects. What drew you to “Battle of the Covers”?

Sadly, we’re mired in the same type of vocal performances, which eventually turned into one big chewing gum. And perhaps that is why interest in such projects is fading. It’s not because there’s less talent, but because the format has become boring. And the “Battle of Covers” is not a story about who sings the best, but about the opportunity for guys from different cities of Russia to show that they not only play well as cover bands, but know how also be creative. I couldn’t even imagine that the songs of “Lube” would sound so cool in a rock style, and “Hop, Trash Can” would suit Pussycat Dolls music perfectly! I’m sure it will be an interesting sight.

What hits would you like to hear?

I think I will hear them all. (Smiles.) For the release, we listen to thirteen songs, and for the whole season there will be one hundred and fifty, or even more. I think there will be many of my favorites among them.

You are on the jury with Klava Koka. Which song of his would you cover?

You know, I probably wouldn’t cover Klava’s hit. To be honest, I don’t really like this genre. Yes, and in his life he never used the works of others, but wrote everything himself in order to leave something of himself on this earth.

Will you forgive candidates for forgotten words, missing notes?

Yes, it doesn’t matter at all. If we were on the jury of the Tchaikovsky Music Competition, our echo sounder would tune exclusively to singing. And in the “Battle of Covers” we look at the idea, the creativity, the presentation. It seems to me that everyone gets away with it, and who is more successful, we just decide.

Maybe you will consider some of the artists to produce?

Why not? I really liked the way one of the contestants played. I will gladly take his contacts and get in touch with him to find out what genre he sings in outside of this project.

Do you have followers now?

Last December, I presented a new project “Hands up! Band”. It’s a cover band that actively travels around the country and tears up theaters. The other day, I asked the editors of our show why they didn’t take my guys, and they told me said, “So it’s all fair with us. You can come to the casting and introduce yourself. If I had known sooner, I might have sent my cover band into this battle. (Smiling.)
