OR King Charles III wears 8kg of gold robes and accessories during her coronation ceremony this Saturday the 6th, at Westminster Abbey, London. Buckingham Palace listed the outfits and items that will be worn by the 74-year-old monarch at the event.
At the coronation ceremony, the King Charles III they will wear heavy golden robes, similar to those worn by priests, which were once worn by their ancestors at their coronation. One of the pieces is a kind of super tunic, created for her great-grandfather George V in 1911, and which was also worn by Elizabeth II in 1953.
A tunic is made of gold clothwhich is a silk thread wrapped in thin pieces of gold or silver metal, and weighs approx 2kg. On top, the monarch will use the so-called Imperial cloakwhich weighs on average 4kg. The mantle will be taken by the eldest son of Charles III, Prince William.
The piece has more than 200 years of history and was initially created for King George IV in 1821. St Edward’s wreath weighs an average of 2 kg. All pieces added up to 8 pounds in gold.
