Journalist fired from Globo after 25 years finds a new profession outside of TV

Flavia Jannuzzi turned a hobby into a plan B when she was hit by the broadcaster’s wave of cuts to journalism

In early April, Globo fired 10 journalists from its Rio newsroom. Among the sacked veterans was Flavia Jannuzzi, seen in the reports of ‘Jornal Nacional, ‘Jornal da Globo’ and ‘Fantástico’.

“Life is in cycles. Mine with TV Globo lasted 25 years. A sold out wedding at the height of its silver anniversary. And like every relationship it has a beginning, a middle and an end”, analyzed the journalist on a social network.

The initial shock was an incentive to invest in a hobby that has become a second profession: floriculture. Jannuzzi is a recognized floral design. Recently, he showed off his arrangements at an event for ‘Vogue’ magazine at a mall in Rio de Janeiro.

His compositions with various types of flowers and plants are appreciated by friends, clients and followers online. Actress Beth Goulart has already received the florist-reporter-ordered arrangements from fans.

The example of Flavia Jannuzzi serves all journalists. The job market in communication is going through a dramatic period, not just television. Newspapers, magazines, portals and other vehicles make layoffs to make ends meet.

There are not enough vacancies for so many veteran and rookie talent. Having a second income has become a matter of survival for news workers. For the former Globo reporter, the poetic beauty of flowers should ease the frustration of losing her dream TV job.
