Actress Ming-Na Wen, who has worked in Disney, Marvel and Star Wars productions, has earned her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony was broadcast live on Tuesday (30/5) and the highlight among those in attendance were their first major film cast, Tamlyn Tomita, Lauren Tom and Rosalind Chao from the comedy ‘The Happiness Club’ (1993).
“I’ve been honored in the most extraordinary way,” Wen told Variety of being inducted into the Walk of Fame. “And all I’m doing is fulfilling my biggest nerd dreams… I’m so honored, but I don’t feel worthy of this. I’m literally having anxious dreams about this.”
As a benchmark among Asian-American actors in Hollywood, the actress speaks about the importance of this recognition and hopes that other people will feel inspired by seeing her name on the sidewalk, along with so many other well-known artists.
“I have to step outside of myself and see the bigger picture of what this really means,” he reflects. “If someone walks past that star and sees it’s an Asian-American name, a Chinese name, what does it represent? How can it inspire other people?”
Throughout her career, the actress has been involved in several major pop culture productions. She was responsible for the voice of Princess Mulan in Disney’s original animation, released in 1998, and starred in the animated adaptation of the game “Final Fantasy” in 2001. In TV, she worked on the series “Plantão Médico” (ER) between 1994 and 2005, playing Dr. Jing-Mei “Deb” Chen, and entered Marvel as one of the protagonists of the “Agents of SHIELD” series, shown between 2013 and 2020. More recently, she also stood out as the mercenary Fennec Shand from the “Star Wars” universe, with appearances in the series “The Mandalorian”, “The Book of Boba Fett” and the animated “Star Wars: The Bad Batch”.
He also devotes much affection to the film that marked the beginning of his career, “O Clube da Felicidade E da Sorte”, released in 1993.”[O filme] it opened up a whole new world that I didn’t know existed, much less was available,” she explains of representation. “From meeting all these amazing Asian actors to this community that I didn’t even know existed. I was living the dream.”
Wen commented on the possibility of participating in a sequel, which is really being discussed at the moment. “That would be very exciting. Although, if all four of us get together, I don’t know if we will be able to do anything, because we will laugh too much,” she jokes.
