Roberto de Carvalho, husband and musical partner of Rita Leeopened her heart in an emotional interview for Veja magazine, baby more than a month after the singer’s deathvictim of lung cancer that has metastasized. The artist revealed how the first few weeks were away from the 46-year-old partner.

“I have ups and downs. There are times when I am at peace with what happened. There are times when I break down. On a excerpt from his latest book, “Another Autobiography”, Rita reveals her desire to be cremated and to have her ashes thrown into the family farm garden. The first has been answered, the second will wait a little longer for an exciting reason.

“Rita’s ashes are here at home, on an altar. We will throw them in the garden, but only when I go upstairs and meet her. I want to be cremated and my ashes will be mixed with hers. Then our children decide what to do. In the meantime, stay here next to me”, says Roberto.

Rita discovered lung cancer in April 2021. At first she had a life expectancy of months, but she held on bravely for two years. According to Roberto, his wife’s last few months were difficult because of her pain, which prevented her from walking.

The last moments of Rita’s life were what she always wanted: surrounded by those she loved most. “It was me and my children, plus the nurses. It wasn’t a heavy thing. She faded away little by little. Her breathing was … [interrompe a resposta emocionado]. There was no drama, it was like a flame going out. He was like a wounded bird. I wish I’d gotten along. We planned to go there together, you know? It was what we always wanted. In the end, she said nothing more. She opened her eyes and slept,” the musician said, again in an interview with Veja magazine.
