The Police Station for Racial Crimes and Intolerance of Rio de Janeiro (DECRADI) opened an investigation on Tuesday 22 to investigate Silvana Taques, mother of actress Larissa Manoela, for possible practice of religious intolerance. The crime news was presented by the Commission for the fight against religious intolerance of the State of Rio de Janeiro, represented by the Articulation Center for Marginalized Populations (CEAP), and focuses on allegations of religious racism, as defined by law 7.716 /1989.

The investigation comes after public disagreements between Larisa manoela and her parents for financial control of the actress’ assets. In the midst of this confrontation, a conversation between Larisa AND Silvana it was revealed, in which Silvana commented on the family religion of her daughter’s boyfriend, actor André Luiz Frambach. In the exchange of messages, Silvana defines the actor’s family as “a family of macumbeiros”.

For the Estadao, Carlos Nicodemos, lawyer of the Commission for the Fight Against Religious Intolerance and one of the signatories of the crime report, explained that, in this first phase of the investigation, the first evidence is being collected to determine if there are the conditions for proceeding with the case. If there is sufficient evidence, justice can be activated through a formal complaint for a criminal trial.

If proven guilty, Silvana risk the penalties provided for by law 7.716/1989, which provides for imprisonment from one to three years and a fine for those who practice, induce or incite discrimination or prejudice based on race, colour, ethnic group, religion or national origin.
