Son of presenter Marcelo Rezende, who passed away in 2017, and also a journalist Diego Esteves revealed to have been abused by his father’s ex-girlfriend when I was between 7 and 8 years old. She said she needed years of therapy to deal with the situation.

The matter came to light last week, the 19th, when he and other hosts of the program Afternoon, from the Argentine broadcaster America TV, heard the story of a young man who had suffered abuse. “I’ll tell you what happened to me when I was a child. I have never said that. I’ve been in therapy for many years, and it’s a very difficult topic,” she began.

The journalist said that he told his personal experience only because he wanted to give support to the boy who recounted a similar case of abuse and who, even after so many years, still remembered it. “These episodes are like butterfly effects and we carry them with us forever. I’ll tell them and everyone will come to their own conclusion,” he said.

“I was 7 or 8 years old and, for a few minutes, I was entrusted to the care of an ex-girlfriend of my father. A woman who was 40 years old. I think she had gone to buy something to eat, she was on holiday in Brazil and I was alone with this woman. I’ll tell you so that the mechanism [do abuso] be understood,” Diego said.

Then he continues: “She started playing football with me in a room. When the game ends, I remember it perfectly. She was wearing black fishnet stockings and a miniskirt. She made me sit on her lap and started saying “stroke me here, she starts from the knee, continues down the thigh”. And, when the situation was about to continue, my brother came in and, at that moment, the situation stopped.”

Colleagues on the show were shocked by the revelation. Diego also said that, at the time, he wasn’t sure why he hadn’t told her, but that perhaps it was because he felt “a little ashamed.” He encouraged victims, who have experienced something similar, to report their attackers.
