Beware, Davi: The Portuguese Big Brother Champion Spent Too Much and Remained Poor

The Portuguese Big Brother final took place on Sunday 30 June. The champion Inês Morais received 100 thousand euros from TVI, equal to R$595 thousand. The prize is five times less than that received by the winner of Globo’s “BBB24”, Davi Brito.

The rise of the former app pilot is reminiscent of the victory of Portugal’s first reality show champion, Zé Maria, also known as Zé das Galinhas, in 2001.

Zé Maria had to be admitted to a clinic to treat his mental health. Today, at 50, he lives in his hometown, Barrancos, with less than 2,000 inhabitants. He was unemployed for a long time and then worked in a small beauty salon. He survives on government benefits and under the influence of antidepressants.

After “BBB24”, Davi was criticized by the press and on social media for the expensive lifestyle shown in his posts. He responds by saying that racism makes people not accept that a black person enjoys a house with a pool, cars and travel.

Young people have the right to enjoy life, but they must be careful not to suffer the same fate as Zé Maria and the other Big Brother champions who have returned to square one after winning the prize.
