Carlinhos Brown returns to the stage of Rock in Rio for a special show, celebrating Brazilianness. This Saturday, the 21st, he will perform at ‘Para Semper MPB’ alongside artists such as Baianasystem, Daniela Mercury, Ney Matogrosso, Gaby Amarantos, Majur and Zeca Baleiro. Before the show, in conversation with the press, the artist recalled the 2001 edition of the festival, when he was booed by the audience.

“I’m returning to Rock in Rio without feeling like a victim”, said the artist. “Why do I have this attitude, you know? If I decided to live and live in a favela to this day, even though I’m a successful guy, that would really identify who I am, right?” he added.

Furthermore, Carlinhos stated that all that remains is to be grateful and maintain this performance with truth and respect for the public. “The public is never wrong, they are the ones who are bringing me here to set foot again”, concluded the artist.

40 years of tradition

It’s 40 years of Rock in Rio – and also of Axé Music. For Carlinhos, who says he was very well accompanied in this special show, Axé Music arrived at a difficult time, in which the strength of national rock formed what he called a wall.No Brazilian was accepted and this forced the clashes,” he believes.

Even so, he acknowledges that 40 years of Rock in Rio collides “beautifully” with 40 years of Axé Music.

“We are contemporaries, it is the same generation. Maybe we celebrate 40 years of career, together with Axé who celebrates 40 years of career. We built this genre, each one of us doing research. Sometimes together, sometimes apart, we invent so many crazy things”added Daniela Mercury, who was at her side in the interview.

For Daniela, this is a night of all musical genres. “It’s rock that precedes us, but we swallowed the guitars… apart from the fact that we had already swallowed the tropicalists, João’s bossa, we are urban, right, so we wanted everything, the harmonies…”, he said, accompanied by Carlinhos. “To clarify that for us, swallowing is taste… It is swallowing in an anthropophagic sense”, Brown added.
