What happened to Ayrton Senna’s parents after his death?

The launch of the series “Senna” on Netflix has reignited interest in the life of the iconic Brazilian driver, Ayrton Sennaand aroused curiosity about his family, in particular his parents, Milton da Silva AND Neyde Joanna Senna da Silva. Throughout their son’s career, the couple was always present, closely following Senna’s every feat on the Formula 1 tracks.

After Ayrton’s tragic death in 1994, the family chose to live discreetly, away from the spotlight. Milton, known as Miltão, died at the age of 94 in 2021, leaving behind a story marked not only by the support of his son’s career, but also by his dedication to the metallurgical company he founded. Neyde, Ayrton’s mother, is still alive, but has maintained a more reserved profile.

Recently, in 2023, she appeared in a video shared on YouTube, in which she made an emotional request for her granddaughter: a sculpture of her son. “I wanted a sculpture where I could look and see him, his face,” she said emotionally. The artist Lalalli, in response to Neyde’s request, produced a life-size sculpture of Ayrton and, subsequently, a 3.5 meter version was installed at the Interlagos racecourse.

In 2019, Neyde paid a touching tribute to his son, recalling moments from his childhood and highlighting Ayrton’s sweet and attentive character. “He wouldn’t stop. He was always moving something or doing something. He was sweet, he was docile,” she said, fondly recalling memories of her time with the pilot.
