Find out how Michael Schumacher communicates after the accident that changed his life

Away from the spotlight since 2013, the former Formula 1 driver lives with serious limitations and communicates with his family non-verbally

Since the accident suffered in a ski resort at the end of 2013, Michael Schumacher lives a private life, away from the media. The seven-time Formula 1 world champion suffered a serious head injury and, after a long period of hospitalization, began to be treated at home, under the constant care of his family. Details about his health are rare, but little by little some information is coming to light.

According to the British newspaper The Mirrorthe former pilot can no longer speak, but still communicates with his loved ones through his eyes. Elisabetta Gregoraci, wife of the entrepreneur Flavio Briatore, revealed in 2020:

“Michael doesn’t speak, he communicates with his eyes. Only three people can visit him and I know who they are. They moved to Spain and his wife opened a hospital at home,” he said.

Another name close to Schumacher, former director of Ferrari Jean Todthe also commented on his status in 2023. “Michael is here, I don’t miss him. But he is no longer the Michael he once was. He is different and is guided by his wife and children, who support him. His life is different now and I have the privilege of sharing moments with him,” he stated.

The former pilot’s wife, Corinna, has taken a central role in her husband’s care. They have been together since 1995 and have two children, Mick and Gina-Maria. He chose to keep his family’s life under strict discretion after the accident.

The accident that changed everything

The tragic episode that interrupted Schumacher’s public career took place on December 29, 2013, in the French Alps. During a descent he collided with a boulder and fell seriously, hitting his head. He was placed in a medically induced coma and remained in intensive care for months.

He has not appeared in public since then. The family avoids publishing updates on his medical condition, giving priority to preserving his privacy and dignity.

The German journalist Felix Gornerin an interview with the RTL broadcaster, he recently brought new information. “The situation is very sad. He needs constant care and is totally dependent. He can no longer express himself verbally”, he said.

Gorner also commented on the secrecy kept around the former driver: “At the moment there are a maximum of 20 people who can approach Michael. I believe this is the correct strategy. They have always been extremely careful about his privacy and this has not changed,” concluded.
