Gina Lollobrigida will run for the Italian Senate at 95 years old

Actress Gina Lollobrigida, an icon of Italian cinema and one of the most glamorous actresses of the golden age of Hollywood, will run for the position of Italian senator for a left-wing party at the age of 95.

Despite her age, she retains all her energy and now intends to channel it to convince the Italians to vote her in the elections on 25 September.

The actress will run for Sovereign and Popular Italy, a new political alliance that opposes the sending of arms to Ukraine and “warm Atlanticism” and is supported, among other forces, by the Communist Party and the Homeland Socialist.

In a recent interview published in Corriere della Sera, Lollobrigida said she was “tired of listening to politicians talking without finding solutions”.

“As long as I have energy, I will use it for important things, especially for my country. Italy has problems, I want to do something good and positive”, he declared.

The protagonist of classics such as “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” (1956), “When September Comes” (1961) and “Amor à Italiana” (1965) said she decided to run away after talking to her lawyer, Antonio Ingroia , and having been inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, whom he praises for “his way of doing things, non-violence”.

Lollobrigida tried her luck in the world of politics already in the 90s, when she ran for the European Parliament, but was not elected.

He said that he remembers that defeat as “an experience” and, in this sense, considers that “in life you can lose and you can win”.

The polls for the early elections on 25 September give the conservative coalition formed by Forza Italia, led by Silvio Berlusconi as the favorite.

Berlusconi, who will turn 86 four days after these elections, recently said he too is considering running for senator after being expelled from the Senate in 2013 for a conviction for fraud. This verdict prevented him from holding managerial positions and running for election for several years.
