It’s official: “Harry Styles didn’t spit on Chris Pine”

A Chris Pine rep vehemently denied that the actor was spat on by Harry Styles at the premiere of “Don’t Worry Honey” at the Venice Film Festival. A video of the moment went viral on social media, sparking protests against the singer.

“This is a ridiculous story, a complete fabrication and the result of a strange online illusion that clearly deceives and allows for foolish speculation,” the rep said in a statement released Tuesday.

“Just to be clear, Harry Styles did NOT spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between these two men and any hint otherwise is a blatant attempt to create a drama that simply doesn’t exist.”

The statement came after filming the video, in which Styles allegedly spat on Pine as he sat down for the film’s screening at the Venice Film Festival, generated millions of views on Twitter and other social media sites. After that, a video showing the scene from another angle confirms that the “spitgate” was indeed an optical illusion.

The alleged incident was just one of the many controversies that director Olivia Wilde and her cast had to dismiss during the “Don’t Worry Darling” run in Venice.

Wilde, in particular, had to answer questions about her lead star Florence Pugh’s absence from the film’s press conference following rumors of conflict during filming. Officially, she failed to arrive in time because she had trouble catching a flight from Budapest, Hungary, where she is filming “Dune: Part 2”. But TimothĂ©e Chalamet, star of “Dune”, did not delay a second of the busy promotion program for his new film in Venice.

In addition to the video of the now recognized fake spitting, several records showed the distancing between Wilde and Pugh, who walked away and did not speak to each other during the premiere.

Pugh was also the first to leave the session, ending the applause of the audience prematurely, which would go a long way in promoting the film, as critics hated him: he has a 43% approval on Rotten Tomatoes, a little more than 39% of initial criticisms.
