Actress Kristen Stewart (“Crimes of the Future”) starred in a short film from the Chanel brand that paid tribute to the world of cinema. At just over a minute in length, the short was shown during Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday (4/10).
In the short, Stewart plays herself and is seen leaving a film screening of the nouvelle vague classic “Last Year in Marienbad” (1961). Outside the theater, a reporter asks Stewart “what makes her confident for the future.”
The question leads Stewart to philosophize about the present and his identity. His answers are interspersed with beautiful black and white images of Parisian streets, bars and houses.
The reference to “Last Year in Marienbad” is not free. The founder of the brand, Gabrielle Chanel, better known as Coco Chanel, designed the costumes for the actress Delphine Syrig for the film directed by Alain Resnais.
Kristen Stewart also attended the Chanel show (which was full of cinematic references) as a guest of honor in Paris. She arrived at the event accompanied by model Charlotte Casiraghi, grandson of Grace Kelly and daughter of the Monegasque Caroline who opened this year’s show.
“Of the people around me, (Stewart) is the closest to Gabrielle Chanel,” Chanel art director Virginie Viard wrote in the show’s liner notes. “You understand Chanel, her clothes. And with her it becomes even more modern.”
