The artist was diagnosed with lung cancer, aggravated by an embolism. For some months she had been battling the disease.
Born in Uruguaiana, within the Rio Grande do Sul, he released his first solo album in 1981 and experienced its heyday soon after, when the live album “Notícia Urgente” (1983) turned it into one a critical favorite of Rio Grande do Sul and the song “When I Arrival” (1984) became one of the most played in the state.
His later albums, such as “Novo País” (1985), “Pegadas” (1987) and “Danço Só” (1988) established their own style, mixing milonga and gaucho rhythms with pop and rock arrangements.
Bebeto Alves was considered one of the great icons of modern gaucho music, along with Nei Lisboa, Nelson Coelho de Castro, Vitor Ramil and Kleiton and Kledir. Although his success with him was mainly local, he never stopped recording, releasing his latest album in 2021. He also had songs recorded by Belchior and Ana Carolina.
In addition to being a musician, he was also an actor, with outstanding works in the gaucho epic “Netto Perde Sua Alma” (2001), an award-winning film by Tabajara Ruas and Beto Souza, and also in the miniseries “Caixa Preta” (2017). Additionally, she starred in his documentary, “Mais Uma Canção”, in 2012.
