Liniker makes history at the 2022 Latin Grammys

The 2022 Latin Grammy Awards, which took place Thursday night (11/17) in Las Vegas, marked a historic win for Liniker, who became the first Brazilian transgender artist to win the award.

The 27-year-old singer and actress, star of the series “Manhãs de Setembro”, won the category of Best Brazilian Popular Music Album with “Indigo Borboleta Anil”.

In her speech, Liniker drew attention to the feat: “Hello. I’m Liniker, I’m a Brazilian singer, songwriter and actress and today something historic happens in the history of my country. It’s the first time a transgender artist has won a Grammy”.

“Thanks so much to all my team, who have been with me since the beginning, dreaming of me. Thanks to my producers, to all the songwriters who have worked with me on this album. I am very happy. Thank you very much” , he concluded.

Several other Brazilian artists were honored during the event, including Ludmilla, Alceu Valença, Erasmo Carlos, Marisa Monte and Chitãozinho & Xororó. Among the international highlights, Puerto Rican reggaeton star Bad Bunny was the trophies champion, with four wins.

In addition, the Grammy paid tribute to Gal Costa, who passed away last week, with the participation of Anitta and the dedication of the ceremony to the Brazilian artist.

With images of the singer displayed on screen during the ceremony and to the tune of “Chuva de Prata”, Anitta said: “A few days ago, an iconic figure passed away. Funny, unique and infinitely talented. We will miss you dearly and this show it’s for you. . We will honor you with more songs. Gal, we will never forget you.” The Brazilian was accompanied by the Mexican Thalía, who recalled the Lifetime Achievement Award received by Gal Costa at the 2011 Latin Grammy Awards.
