The singer explains the production process of the album ‘Merry Christmas, Love’ and spares no praise to the Brazilian fans; he returns to the country in April with the “20 Years of Soul” tour.
Joss Stone lived a whole year Christmas to make the album Merry Christmas, love, released on September 30. Now she’s thankful that the holidays are finally here.
In an interview with Stadium, the 35-year-old singer explains that the Christmas album started planning in February. “By April, the songs were being finalized, and by July we were actually producing them,” he recalls.
A few months later, with the album ready, she was surprised by the label’s decision to release it out of season: “I was like ‘what, in September? Well that’s embarrassing, now I have to post about Christmas on my social media mid September'”.
Despite how intense Joss has had to experience the festivities, producing a holiday album is something he’s always wanted. Something that, according to her, came with the freedom she gained as an artist.
The singer attributes this freedom to her departure from the British label EMI in 2009, when he was 21 years old. Three years later, in 2012, the company closed its operations. He is currently part of the group Universal music🇧🇷
“When I did that, it freed up my life. I said ‘now I’m going to make the music I want to make, when I want to make it and who I want to make it with’. And that freed me up to explore different genres of music and enjoy my work it’s my life.” she says.
Exhibition in Brazil
Joss will visit Brazil in 2023. He will perform at Vibra, formerly Credicard Hall, in São Paulo on April 20, and at Teatro Positivo, Curitiba on April 24.
The singer, however, is no stranger to the Brazilian stage. She has come to the country several times, including in 2022, when she performed at Espaço Unimed, São Paulo, in June.
The artist would also be one of the attractions of the Rock in Riobut the show was canceled after an error by her manager, replaced by Jessie J.
When asked about her expectations for upcoming performances here, Joss is full of praise: “I don’t know how many times you’ve heard artists say this, but the Brazilian audience rocks. They are so amazing, kind and loyal. They know all the lyrics to every song and it’s wonderful”.
“When you stand in front of an audience and give them your heart, it’s scary. It’s a very vulnerable thing to do every night,” she says.
“So when everyone says, ‘We’re with you, don’t worry,’ you feel more confident. You feel like you have a purpose and you’re achieving the goal of what you’re doing.”
the tour 20 years of soul, which runs through Brazil, is a celebration of the singer’s 20-year career. He doesn’t yet know which songs will be part of the show, but says he would like to honor all of his albums.
“It will be in April so Christmas might not be the right time, but I really rate this album [Merry Christmas, Love] one of the ones i love the most. Since I’ve given so much love, I’d really like to sing a song from that record. I would really like to sing a song from every record I’ve made,” she explains.
The artist doesn’t want this tour to be like any other. Fans can expect a more immersive and perhaps different experience than Joss typically offers.
“Usually when I’m performing, I just sing a bunch of stuff that I think people will like. I sing hits and stuff and it’s not organized. It’s natural enough, but with this [turnê]I would like to put together a show that will take audiences through the years,” he reveals.
