RTVE's animal adoption show "Dog House," hosted by singer Chenoa on La 1, airs a new episode tonight built around five parallel stories showing how dogs can help people work through emotional wounds, loss and family change.
Chenoa, the Spanish singer and television presenter who rose to fame through the reality contest Operacion Triunfo and later served as a coach on La Voz, has fronted "Dog House" since the format's launch. The show pairs rescue dogs with people hoping to adopt and follows the emotional journey of each match.
A woman seeking the affection she never had
Among tonight's stories is that of a woman who grew up without the support of a family unit. She comes to the centre wanting to give the most vulnerable animal there the affection she says she lacked as a child.
A family paying kindness forward
In a similar story of overcoming hardship, the episode follows a family of Colombian origin who, after working hard to settle in Spain and raise their daughters, want to offer a permanent home to a dog rescued from abandonment.
A dog given one more chance
The episode also makes room for animals marked by repeated rejection. One dog has been through several failed adoption attempts and is introduced at the show's facilities to a father and daughter, in the hope of finally breaking the run of mismatches and settling into stable companionship.
Blended families and rebuilding trust
Two further stories carry heavier emotional weight. A blended family, formed by a couple and the daughters from their previous relationships, hopes that bringing in a dog will help cement the unity of their new household.
Separately, a woman who has been through personal setbacks is looking to the unconditional loyalty of her future dog as a way of rebuilding her trust in people.
