Spanish designer Juan Avellaneda has taken to TikTok to forecast which trends will fade this autumn-winter season and which will take their place, citing both runway looks and emerging street-level popularity as the basis for his predictions.
What’s on the way out
Avellaneda said the cow print, which appeared on all kinds of garments and accessories over the past year, had a more limited runway than other trends. He believes another animal print will take its place this season.
Butter yellow, one of the most popular colours in recent months, faces a similar fate. Avellaneda said the shade performs well in spring and summer but is harder to adapt to winter looks. He noted it thrived on social media but not as much on the street, and suggested it would survive only in accessories and small details rather than as a headline colour.
Pillbox hats are also losing ground, according to the designer. He said they were heavily featured on social media but never fully crossed over into everyday wear, and predicted that simpler, more versatile accessories would replace them.
What’s coming in
Avellaneda named zebra print as the standout rising trend, describing it as a more elegant and versatile alternative to cow print. He said it can work as a statement piece in jackets or skirts, or in more discreet accessories for those who prefer to ease into the look gradually.
He also forecast the return of a colour combination previously popularised by Victoria Beckham: blue and red. He highlighted the pairing of sky blue with deep red as sophisticated and easy to style, and suggested burgundy as a quieter substitute for those who find the look too bold.
For accessories, Avellaneda pointed to scarves as a key item this autumn. He said they have an advantage over hats because they are easier to work into daily outfits and can be worn multiple ways, including over the head as a bandana or tied around the neck.
