Olivia Wilde accuses ‘Ted Lasso’ star of failing to pay child support

Actress and director Olivia Wilde has filed a lawsuit against her ex-husband, actor Jason Sudeikis, claiming he is not paying child support. The ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ director has formally requested that the ‘Ted Lasso’ star begin paying child support for Otis and Daisy, saying she bears all of the expenses to raise the children herself. “Jason is not currently paying me child support, despite my requests through attorneys to agree on an interim support amount to avoid further litigation in this matter,” it says in the lawsuit, according to The Blast US website.

Olivia says that while she and Jason share “some of the costs of the kids,” like tuition, she pays for everything else while the kids are in her care, “including but not limited to food, clothing, childcare, activities extracurricular and transportation costs”.

The director claims in the documents that she receives $40,000 a month in salary, as well as $60,000 in income from her production company Wilde Company and “rental income.” Earlier, she told the court that her total net worth is $10.5 million. As for expenses, Olivia says she spends over $107,000 on monthly expenses, with costs listed as “$60,000 rent/mortgage” and $4,000 for “laundry and cleaning.”

However, Olivia claims her ex-husband is much wealthier than she is, and her lawyers say “it’s beyond question that he earns much more than Olivia and has greater access to funds.” With that in mind, she asks Jason to start paying a fair amount so he can “properly provide” for her children with conditions that are “compatible” with her “standard of living.”

Olivia did not request a specific amount for child support because she does not have access to Jason’s income. However, she asked Sudeikis to contribute US$500,000 to defray his legal fees. He says this is “not only because he’s in a significantly superior financial position,” but because he believes “the vast majority of these expenses” were incurred as a result of the “atrocious, unnecessary, and aggressive conduct of Jason and the his lawyers”.

For context, Jason and Olivia’s legal battle has been going on for quite some time now, with the ex-spouses butting heads over various child-related issues, especially where the custody case should be based. Recently, Sudeikis requested that the case be moved to New York instead of California. His application was denied on March 23, with a ruling by the New York magistrate that “it is in the interest of justice that the parties’ petition for alimony be heard in California.”

In the files related to that petition, Olivia’s legal team accused Jason of trying to change the venue of the litigation in an effort to “bind” her into debt and leave her unable to pay the costs of her defense. “While Jason can afford to endlessly petition, Olivia can’t,” their lawyers accused in legal documents that surfaced online last month. “Jason shouldn’t have the right to sue Olivia for debts.”

In the same files, Olivia accused Jason of acting “in bad faith” during the custody battle, describing his actions as “stunning.” “I am completely baffled that he believes that engaging in bullying or cheating will serve the best interests of our children,” she said.
