The moment that made Spielberg cry!
At the Time 100 Gala this past Wednesday night, there was another reunion of those that will make many 80’s movie lovers cry. Those who were child stars, Ke Huy Quan and Drew Barrymore reunited after “not seeing each other in almost 40 years” to present Steven Spielberg with the award that he had to collect at the ceremony, the Impact Award of the event.
“Steven introduced me to this world where his imagination lived and invited me inQuan said, reminiscing about the man who discovered him decades ago (and whom he has remembered throughout the past awards race). “It showed me how much fun we have when we let our creativity be our guide. My life has improved a lot thanks to him.”
In his acceptance speech, the famous director reciprocated the affection he received from Quan and Barrymore. “I have never been more proud of my working career than having been able to find, in 1981, Drew Barrymore at the age of 6, and in early 1983 Ke at the age of 11. I was so lucky to find them both, and they haven’t changed in all those years.“.
Quan, who was the winner of the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his work in ‘Everything at the same time everywhere’, has kept in mind in the previous awards race the man who discovered him as a child to enter the film from ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’. A great moment last season was when he went up to collect his Golden Globe, where the actor had great words of thanks to Spielberg. “When I started my career as a child actor, I felt very lucky to have been cast. As I got older, I began to wonder if that was it, if it was just luck. For so many years, I was afraid that I had nothing more to offer. No matter what I did, I would never surpass what I achieved as a child. Fortunately, more than 30 years later, two boys thought of me again (…)” Those two boys were the Daniels, the great winners of the Oscars 2023 and creators of a film loved and hated in equal parts. However, the academies and award associations have fallen in love with their work.
Along with Quan, Barrymore and Spielberg, the evening’s honorees also included the likes of Austin Butler, Kim Kardashian, Ali Wong and Angela Bassett. The event, hosted by actress Jennifer Coolidge, and held in New York, the main event commemorating Time’s 2023 list of the world’s most influential people.
