Adriane Garcia has taken to social media to speak out about abuse and violence
Brazilian actress Adriane Garcia, 40, spoke of moments of terror after being attacked last Monday, the 13th, in Campo de Ourique, a neighborhood of Lisbon, Portugal. The place is considered one of the most luxurious and safe in the capital, where many Brazilians live, however Adriane said she was attacked and harassed.
The actress said she returned from the gym around 8.30pm and absentmindedly approached her car, parked on the street. The attacker came from behind her and grabbed her.
“A man grabbed me from behind and then put his hand over my mouth. I already had my cell phone in my hand and was trying to get closer to the car. He kept trying to put his hand on me. I elbowed him and managed to get out. But he came and he punched me in the mouth”.
The Rio native has lived in Portugal for 18 years and said she has never experienced a similar situation. After posting on her Instagram, she showed that her upper lip was swollen and she urged other women to protect themselves.
“Girls, be careful when walking the streets at night. Lisbon, unfortunately, is no longer what it once was. Thanks for the messages. I’m calmer and a little better now. My mouth was swollen, but I’ll be fine tomorrow,” she said.
The actress said she was able to open the car doors using the electronic key. The vehicle turned on its headlights, attracting the attention of a motorist who was looking for a parking space. She called for help and the attacker fled. The driver helped Adriane get into the car and go home.
This Thursday, the 16th, the actress published new posts on Instagram thanking her fans and friends for their concern. She said she was fine and was already back to her routine.
