The singer would have turned 76 this Sunday (76)
Before she died, Rita Lee stated, in an interview with Fantástico, that she celebrated her birthday twice a year. This is because the singer was born on New Year’s Eve and did not have a day entirely dedicated to her. This December 31st Rita Lee would have turned 76.
During the Covid-19 quarantine, Rita Lee felt the need to celebrate her birthday twice. “I changed my birthday during this quarantine. I was born on December 31, the last day of the year. I’ve never thrown a party of my own,” she told Fantástico in 2020.
Furthermore, the singer also recalled that the song “Um Novo Tempo”, which usually marks the end of the year, helped her think about a new date. “It’s always ‘It’s your party / Today is our party / Whoever wants it’. I wanted a party all to myself. For my birthday I chose May 22, which is the day of Santa Rita da Cássia,” he said Rita Lee.
In May of this year the singer left us. Rita Lee has been battling lung cancer since 2021.
