Sigourney Weaver returns in “Avatar 2” as a teenager

Confirmed in “Avatar: The Way of Water” a while ago, actress Sigourney Weaver finally revealed her character this Friday morning (7/1).

In a completely revamped role, Sigourney greets posthumous Dr. Grace Augustine will play teenage Kiri, who is the adopted daughter of Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) in the 2009 film sequel.

Strange as it may seem, the 72-year-old actress will play a young woman. But that’s thanks to the cutting-edge technology used by director James Cameron to create the film’s visual effects.

Kiri’s first image was revealed in May by 20th Century Studios, but without identifying Weaver. Now, a similar photo has become the cover of the new issue of Empire magazine, released this Friday in the UK, confirming the interpretation.

In an exclusive interview with the British magazine, Sigourney said he remembers very well how he felt as a teenager and used it as a benchmark for his performance. “I thought it would be okay for Kiri to feel uncomfortable most of the time. She’s trying to find herself,” she said.

For the director, the acting challenge was great, but the actress took it seriously. “She looked younger, she had more energy and she never left Kiri during our entire performance capture period. She had a bright face and a light step,” she added.

In the original film, Sigourney Weaver played a scientist determined to preserve the native inhabitants of Pandora’s moon, the Na’vi, which led to her being assassinated by the story’s villain, Colonel Quaritch, played by Stephen Lang. Therefore, his return occurs as a new character.

Released in 2009, the first “Avatar” is the highest-grossing film of all time, amassing a total of $ 2.8 billion through several re-releases.

The sequel “Avatar: O Caminho da Água” will premiere on December 15 in Brazil, one day before its US release.
