The Minister Alexander of Moraesof the Federal Supreme Court (STF), issued this Wednesday (28) a digital summons against the entrepreneur Elon Musk, owner of the social network X (formerly Twitter)requesting the appointment of a new legal representative of the company in Brazil within 24 hours. If the requirement is not met, Moraes orders the suspension of the platform in Brazilian territory for an indefinite period.

The minister’s decision comes amid growing tension between Musk and the STF. On August 17, the social network X announced, through a publication on the platform itself, the closure of its headquarters in Brazil, citing threats of arrest against Rachel de Oliveira Villa Nova Conceiçãowho was in charge of the office in the country, due to non-compliance with court decisions. Although the administrative operations have been closed, the company said that the platform will continue to be accessible to Brazilian users.

In response, Moraes ordered the social network to appoint a new legal representative in Brazil, as required by local legislation. The minister warned that if the company does not comply with the decision, it could face severe sanctions, including the total suspension of its operations until all court orders are complied with and the payment of daily fines. The summons was released by the STF through a post on X itself, in response to the announcement of the closure of operations in the country.
