Last night in London ended one of the largest tennis championships in the world – Wimbledon. In the women’s singles tournament, a native of Moscow, who now plays for Kazakhstan, Elena Rybakina, won, and in the men’s singles tournament, Serb Novak Djokovic secured his status (his eternal rival Rafael Nadal retired from the fight due to an old injury). But the star of the game was not Novak, but a small spectator in the VIP box – 8-year-old Prince George.
For many, his appearance at Wimbledon was a surprise, and for him it was the first time he managed to watch a match in the tournament live. True, his sister Charlotte and brother Louis were not with him – the children remained at home. The fact is that, according to the rules of Wimbledon, children under the age of five are not allowed to the match. So Louis is still too small, and they decided to leave Charlotte so that he, apparently, would not be offended by his parents. In addition, children are not allowed in the royal box, except for members of the royal family.
But it was hard for the oldest child of the Cambridges to sit through the whole game, which lasted three hours: at first, the boy watched the game with interest and emotionally reacted to what was happening on the court, but then he began to get tired, spin around, make faces. Parents tried to pacify George: for example, his father William said something in his ear, and mother Kate gently smoothed her son’s hair. But all in vain – besides that day in London there was a 28-degree heat, and according to the protocol, the prince was dressed in a trouser suit with a tie.
But after the game, His Highness was rewarded for patience and endurance: in the room behind the royal box, the winner of the tournament, Novak Djokovic, let the prince hold his well-deserved trophy. Let us recall that the Duchess of Cambridge handed him to the Serb on the court. The footage was broadcast on the BBC channel – they show that George was incredibly happy about this opportunity. By the way, Kate once said that her children, in particular, the first-born, are very fond of this sport.
