Brazilian Swimmer Makes a Splash in Paris
Brazil continues to do well Paralympic Games! The swimmer Carol Santiago she became the Brazilian athlete with the most Paralympic gold medals in her career. Can you believe it? There are 10 medals to hang on your chest.
She currently has six gold medals, three silver and one bronze in her resume. However, before that, she had already broken the record at the Tokyo 2020 Games, being Brazil’s most successful medalist at the last Paralympics.
Carol, born Maria Carolina Santiago, was born with Morning Glory Syndrome, a congenital change in the retina that reduces her field of vision. She practiced conventional swimming until the end of 2018, when she switched to Paralympic sport. She is the current world record holder in the 50-meter freestyle, with 26.65, recorded at Manchester 2023.
Brazil at the Paralympics
With the medals won by Carol Santiago at the 2024 Paralympic Games, the Brazil Team is in sixth place in the overall medal table. Our delegation has so far accumulated a total of 57 medals since the beginning of the competition. There are 15 golds, 15 silvers and 27 bronzes. That’s a damn medal!
Also this Thursday (5), Brazil will compete in the semi-final of the 400 meters of athletics, with Rayane Soares. The Paralympic Games are broadcast on SporTV and on the official channel of the Paralympic Games on YouTube. We are in the crowd!
