In Recife, Deolane Prison Has Become a Circus

Outside the prison, anonymous people tried at all costs to appear and gain followers

Since the arrest of Deolane Bezerra was announced in Recife, Pernambuco, a myriad of fans have gathered outside the prison. What at first seemed like a mourning crowd soon became a kind of circus, where everyone tried, in some way, to capitalize on what had happened.

With the teams on live television, signs continually appeared with the influencer’s photo accompanied by the respective arrobas of those who held them. Yes, there were people who tried to gain followers based on the lawyer’s misfortune.

In connections with local broadcasters, journalists constantly asked anonymous people why they were fans of the influencer. For the most part, the answer was that they liked her “content.” On TV Guararapes, in one of the connections, the journalist pressed a middle-aged man on what this content was. Confused, he heard from a friend that he liked her “beauty.” Then, pressed to describe the “content,” he replied: “I forgot.”

Indeed, it seemed that the public outside of detention was more interested in catharsis than, in fact, in showing solidarity with the lawyer. Deolane certainly has many fans, but during his arrest many tried to profit or simply spy on what was happening on the national news. The lesson is that not all influence is perceived as intended.
