Gilberto Gil recalled the death of his son Pedrofollowing a road accident in 1990, when he was just 19 years old age. The statement was made in an interview with Conversation with Bial last Friday, 1pm.
Pedro Bial wondered if “the death that affected him the most was that of his son Pedro”. “Yes, I think so. I think so because I had a hard time accepting the reversal of factors,” the singer replied.
“The son precedes the father… It’s hard. He was very young, he was 19. An accident, in a tragic way. That [foi uma] temptation towards non-conformism. I don’t accept it! I don’t accept it! But we have to accept everything, right?”, he continued.
How Pedro, son of Gilberto Gil, died
In the early hours of January 25, 1990, Pedro Gil was involved in a car accident on Avenida Epitácio Pessoa, in the south of Rio de Janeiro. Initially, his clinical condition remained stable, being induced into a coma and using mechanical assistance to breathe, but his health condition later worsened.
Gilberto Gil’s son then died after about eight days in the intensive care unit of the Beneficência Portuguesa hospital. He was a drummer and performed with his father at Hollywood Rock that year.
