Lula recounts the details of the accident she suffered in the bathroom at home while she was cutting her nails; The president was discharged from hospital this Sunday (15)
The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was discharged from hospital this Sunday (15th) after undergoing emergency surgery this Monday (9th) due to an intracranial hemorrhage and another procedure on Thursday (12th) to prevent complications. This was all the result of an accident the politician suffered in October, when he fell in the bathroom and hit his head on the hot tub.
Having just left the Sírio Libanês hospital in São Paulo, Lula held a press conference to update journalists on his health condition. Among the reports, the president recounted how the domestic incident occurred.
“I wasn’t cutting my toenail. I was cutting my nail. I wasn’t standing. I was sitting. I had already cut my toenail, I had already filed my nail. When I went to put the case away, instead of getting up and opening the drawer, I tried to move my butt away from the bench, the bench was round and I fell and hit my head on the hot tub, doing a lot of damage.”he said.
The president underwent all the tests to make sure he was well and went back to living his life normally. Therefore, he was surprised to learn that he would have to undergo emergency surgery: “After the fifth CT scan, I thought I was completely healed. I thought I could do everything. I went back to the treadmill, I went back to weight training. And I wasn’t completely prepared to do the exercise again,” said. “Now I’m going home, calm, sure that I’m healed and that I have to take care of myself.”
The doctors update Lula’s case
The doctor Ana Elena Germoglio highlighted the rapid evolution of the situation: “Thanks to the recovery of our patient, which was extremely better than expected, to my happiness and that of our entire team, the president has been discharged from the hospital and is expected to return home soon”.
Even with discharge from the hospital, the doctor Roberto Kalil Filho he clarified that the president will still be monitored in the next few days in Sao Paulo. On Thursday (19/12) he will undergo a new CT scan and, from a medical point of view, he will be able to return to meetings: “The president is discharged from the hospital and not from the doctor”he underlined.
