Lucas Leto explains the origin of his stage name after bullying

Lucas Leto, who plays Sardinha on the soap opera, adopted his surname after bullying and physical transformation in his youth, replacing “Santos”.

Bahian actor Lucas Leto explained the origin of his stage name during his appearance on the GNT program “Papo de Segunda.” In the attraction broadcast this Tuesday (13), the interpreter of the character “Sardinha” from the telenovela “Vale Tudo” said that the surname “Leto” replaced “Santos” since it was a nickname received in childhood.

During the program, the artist clarified that his name is not linked to singer Jared Leto, as actor João Vicente had suggested. The nickname “Leto” comes from “Skeletor”, the villain from the animated series “He-Man”.

The choice of stage name is linked to the actor’s youthful experiences. “I was bullied as a child. I was a fat child with big thighs, who were roasted and I had to put ointment between my legs. My self-esteem wasn’t much and at that moment I fell madly in love with a girl from Salvador,” he reported.

The decisive moment for his transformation came after he sent a photo with his new sneakers to a girl he was in love with in Salvador. The response he received was that “he’s quite fat.”

This comment motivated Lucas to initiate changes in his eating and exercise habits. “As a Capricorn child, I did everything I could to change this reality. The next day I went to my grandfather’s house, got a device like the one that moves arms and pedals, eliminated bread, sugar and soda. I lost a lot of weight in a month and a half,” he said.

After his physical transformation, family members began calling him “Leto”, in reference to Skeletor, the antagonist of “He-Man”.

At the beginning of his theatrical career, the actor used his own name. “In the theater I used Lucas Santos in the center and I thought Lucas Leto would be much more interesting than Lucas Santos,” he said during the program.
