Food blogger Julie Powell, who inspired the movie “Julie and Julia”, died last Wednesday (10/26) at the age of 49, according to the New York Times. She suffered severe cardiac arrest in her New York home.
Julie Powell rose to fame by deciding to cook all the recipes from Julia Child’s classic book “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” over the course of a year. She started a blog in 2002 to track the progress of her culinary adventure, which has become immensely popular.
In 2005, the blog became the book “Julie & Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen”, which has sold over 1 million copies.
The success made her story a movie in 2009, in which she was played by Amy Adams.
Nora Ephrom’s film (1941-2012) tells a parallel between Julie Powell’s challenge and the story of Julia Child, experienced on screen by Maryl Streep, who was nominated for an Oscar for the role.
