Hector Bonilla, heartthrob of “Chaves”, dies at 83 years old

Mexican actor Hector Bonilla died this Friday afternoon (11/25), a victim of kidney cancer, at the age of 83. The information was confirmed by the Secretary of Culture of the government of Mexico. In his statement, the entity points out that he was “considered one of the best actors in Mexico”.

Bonilla was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2019 and has since been treated.

Although he had an extensive career, which began in the 1960s, he became known in Brazil for his participation in the “Chaves” series, as a celebrity who visits the village and is loved by female characters, such as Chiquinha (María Antonieta de las Nieves ) and Dona Florinda (Florinda Meza).

His participation was originally registered in 1979, a time when he was the heartthrob of soap operas, such as ‘Viviana’ and ‘Pacto de Amor’.

Besides acting, Bonilla has also worked as a director for Televisa and TV Azteca, working behind the scenes on telenovelas and programs. His latest acting work was in a Netflix Christmas comedy, ‘Natal, but Little’ which came out late last year.

He leaves a widow, the actress Sofía Álvarez, and three children, Leonor, Sergio and Fernando Bonilla.
