Former King Constantine II of Greece passed away on January 10. Constantine II is considered the last Greek monarch from the Glücksburg dynasty. In a referendum in 1973, the results of which the king never recognized, the monarchy was abolished and Greece became a republic. Until 2013, Constantine lived in London, where he maintained a close relationship with the late Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain and the current King Charles III.
Note that Constantine II — far from a stranger to the British royal family. He was a cousin to the late Prince Philip and godfather to William, Prince of Wales. William, in turn, became godfather to his first grandson Constantine-Alexios.
